Grade by Question

To navigate to the graded question list:

  • Select the Quiz:

    • Find the quiz you want to update.
    • Click the drop-down arrow next to the quiz name and select "Grade."
  • Access the Questions Tab:

    • In the grading interface, click on the "Questions" tab.
  • Update All Attempts:

    • Click on "Update All Attempts."
    • Select the quiz question you want to update.

From this page you will see an answer distribution; the correct answer according to the grading key is marked with a blue arrow (as shown in the screenshot).

Give points to some attempts:

If you would like to give points for another answer choose "Give to attempts with answer" and select the answer number you'd like to give credit as well as how many points. For reference, the original point value of the question is displayed above. It is optional but recommend to add a comment, then click Save.

When the page refreshes, you'll see your change under the Modification Log at the bottom.

A few key things to note:

  1. Giving points on this screen does not remove points if students already got the question correct, according to the grading key.
  2. If you make a mistake, you can remove points by using the same method and typing 0 points.
  3. You can award partial credit, by typing a decimal into the points box.
  4. You can award extra credit, by typing a larger number than the original point value. By default scores will be capped at 100%.
  5. On this page you cannot change whether a question is marked as bonus (although there are other ways to fix this).
  6. Giving points for an answer on this page, does not change the quiz grading key. If you allow students to see questions after the quiz, students that were given points on the page, will still see the question marked incorrect, but with points awarded.
  7. You cannot change how a question is scored. For example, multi-select questions cannot be changed from "all or nothing" to "correct selections".

This method works well for Multiple Choice and True/False questions, however more complex question types like Multi-Select and Ordering can be difficult to correct, as the points are awarded based on the combination of answer choices.

Give to all attempts:

This method is a straightforward way to negate a question, by making it a "freebie". It can be a quicker way to deal with a incorrectly keyed multi-select, matching, or ordering question type.

If you would like to give the same number of points for any answer choose "Give to all attempts" and type the number of points. As mentioned above, the original point value of the question is shown for reference.

Please note: this method does not give additional points to learners who answered it correctly according to the grading key. All learners get their score set to the same number of points.
