Accessing VDIs/ VM from personal machines

Body

Open a browser to https://myvm.commonwealthu.edu/portal and download the native client if you don’t already have it installed.

Note: You could also use the HTML access option if you want, which does not require you to install the client.

Once installed, launch the client and, if not prompted, click on “Add Server”

Then enter ‘myvm.commonwealthu.edu’ for the server’s name.  Once added, double click on the server icon to connect.

Then you should see a Microsoft login page.

Enter your email address, i.e. username@commonwealthu.edu and you will be directed to our SSO.

Enter your password, and you will be prompted to open the link with the native client (if you have installed it).

You’ll then see something similar to the following notification depending on your browser:

Check the “Always allow” box, then click “Open Omnissa Horizon Client”.

  • Note: the next time you start the client, all the previous steps will be skipped, and it should take you right to here.

You should then see something similar to the following screen. The VMs you see will depend on what you have access to.

For students

Double click on “General Labs VM” or “Science Labs VM” depending on which VM your professor instructed you to use.

 For Faculty and Staff:

Double click on the VM you need to access: “Staff General Use VMs”,  “Tech and Dev”, etc…
