Initial Pairing of a Brightspace Course and McGraw Hill Connect Section

NOTE: These Instructions are for a first-time pairing of a Brightspace course and a MH-Connect section or a new book adoption. If you are copying a previous course to a new semester, please see that section below.

To get started, you will need: (1) A Brightspace course shell, which is provided each semester, and (2) A McGraw Hill Connect course set up (please work with your MH rep).

Step-by-step video instructions are available from McGraw Hill: HERE (video) and also available as a printable PDF (PDF)

To pair the sections:

  1. From Brightspace, go to Content
  2. In a Content module, choose Existing Activities and McGraw Hill Courseware
  3. Choose the type of courseware: Connect or McGraw Hill GO, most users will choose Connect.
  4. After signing in, click pair with an existing Connect course. Select the course name that you would like to pair, select the section name, and click Save.
  5. You have now paired your Connect course with Brightspace.

The last step is to deploy assignments from Connect to D2L. To do this, click Go to section homepage under the Connect course information on the right. This will take you to your section dashboard. Click on your Assignments tab and select the assignments you would like to deploy to D2L Brightspace. Click on the options menu from the three dots on the right corner and select Deploy to Brightspace.

Moving a MH-Connect course to a New Semester

If you have previously used a McGraw Hill Connect course and are re-teaching in a new semester, you can copy and roll your course forward.

Step-by-Step video instructions are available from McGraw Hill: HERE (video)

A basic overview:

  1. Copy your Brightspace course to the new semester. From your new (blank) course use the Course Admin > Import/Export/Copy Components tool, select your previous course, and choose what to copy to the new semester. You can choose a 1:1 course copy (blue button) or select components (gray button).
  2. Duplicate your MH-Connect course to a new section in Connect.
  3. From your Brightspace course, go to Content. Choose the McGraw Hill Connect tool, or Existing Activities > McGraw Hill Courseware.
  4. Select Pair with a Connect Section, choose existing section (that you created above).

You do not need to re-deploy all the Connect assignment each semester. Navigate your your McGraw Hill Connect tool or Existing Activities > McGraw Hill Courseware. Choose Sync with my Connect Section. Follow the prompts to re-link your existing content items and grades to your MH-Connect assignments.

NOTE: You will need to update your assignment dates on the Connect side. You can do this before or after linking the course, but if you do it after you will want to re-sync so the assignment dates are updated in Brightspace.

Manual Sync - McGraw Hill Connect

Step-by-Step video instructions are available from McGraw Hill: HERE (video). There is also a printable PDF available.

Starting from your Brightspace course:

  1. Navigate your your McGraw Hill Connect tool or Existing Activities > McGraw Hill Courseware.
  2. Choose Sync with my Connect Section

NOTE: This will update D2L with all the latest changes to names, dates, point values, or student scores you made in Connect. If you make any manual adjustments to grades on Connect assignments in your D2L grade book, when you click “sync with my connect section,” your gradebook will update with the original grades last entered from Connect, including replacing manually-entered zero scores for non-completed Connect assignments with blank scores.
