Changes to Adobe Licensing: Effective June 28, 2024 FAQ

Summary

Changes to Adobe Creative Cloud licensing June 2024

Body

What is happening to my Adobe license from Commonwealth University?

To maintain compliance with our Adobe contract and ensure smooth transition for students with email changes(all students will have a new default email address with the @commonwealthu.edu domain starting the week of July 1), all current Adobe Creative Cloud licenses issued by Commonwealth University will be suspended on June 28, 2024. There may be a service disruption on and after this date until July 3, 2024. Users are strongly advised to stay out of Adobe Creative Cloud during this transition period.

Faculty and staff will continue to have access to Adobe Creative Cloud for work purposes.

Faculty and staff who require Adobe for teaching, research, or job functions for secondary accounts (department student workers, grad assistants, etc.) can order Adobe Creative Cloud for those accounts here: https://forms.office.com/r/ZhsUKqrekx

Faculty who need Adobe for their classes may request that here: https://forms.office.com/r/3WpDnXDY2Z

Beginning on July 3, 2024, students will be granted licenses for Adobe Creative Cloud and other Adobe professional products as requested by instructors and supervisors for coursework in the remaining summer sessions. Students who need Adobe Creative Cloud for Fall will be licensed within a week of the beginning of the Fall semester.

Adobe Creative Cloud will be available only for academic or workplace needs, NOT for personal use.

If you have assets, files, or other items stored in your Adobe account online, you are strongly encouraged to download them and maintain these files in another location. Users should always maintain files outside of the Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed.

What should I do prior to the Adobe license suspension on June 28, 2024?

All current licenses issued by Commonwealth University will be suspended on June 28, 2024. Please back up or move your files to an alternate location as soon as possible- this is necessary also as Adobe Cloud File Sync is being discontinued (see this here). Here are step by step instructions on how to do this: https://helpdesk.commonwealthu.edu/TDClient/66/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=12602

What will happen to my Adobe Creative Cloud files on June 28, 2024?

After existing Adobe Creative Cloud licenses issued by Commonwealth University are suspended, all access to the files will be inaccessible until a new license is issued.

  • If you are re-licensed, you will be able to retrieve previously saved files in Adobe Cloud.
  • If you are NOT re-licensed, you will NOT be able to retrieve previously saved files in Adobe Cloud.

Users should always maintain files outside of the Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed.

Users no longer affiliated with Commonwealth University will be purged, along with their files.

How do I request Adobe Creative Cloud for my students to be able to complete coursework?

If you are teaching a course that will require Adobe Creative Cloud for student use, please fill out this form and include the term, course subject, number, and section number: https://forms.office.com/r/3WpDnXDY2Z

This will add your course to our list which will be licensed for the semester/session in which it occurs. This will license students in your course for the semester they are taking the course, plus two weeks. Students will gain access to Adobe Creative Cloud one week prior to the start of the semester or session requested, and one week after the end of the semester/session. After the semester/session, they will be unlicensed and lose access to Adobe Creative Cloud within one week.

Again, it is very important for users to maintain files outside of Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed!

If I purchase a personal license for Adobe Creative Cloud, how do I transfer my files from my previous Commonwealth University account?

You can’t transfer your CU files to your personal account via Adobe. To retain your files, you must back them up to an alternate location external to Adobe Cloud prior to the June 28, 2024 suspension date. Any files you have not backed up will NOT be available or retrievable.

Can I purchase an Adobe Creative Cloud license or product for my personal use?

Yes you can. But you must use a non CU email address to place your personal order. Do NOT use your CU email address.

Can I cancel an existing paid account if I get licensed by Commonwealth University?

You can only cancel Adobe for a full refund if cancellation is within fourteen days of purchase.

Do I need Adobe Creative Cloud to view PDF documents?

No. You can use the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view PDF documents.

What is Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Free, Adobe Acrobat Reader lets you view, print, share, annotate, and digitally sign a PDF form or document without use of Creative Cloud.

What happens when I graduate or leave the University?

You need to maintain your files outside of Adobe Cloud. Once your CU account is no longer functional, you will also not be able to access your Adobe Creative Cloud account.

Users should always maintain files outside of the Adobe Cloud since licensing from semester to semester is not guaranteed.
