If a student needs to finish a course in which they received an Incomplete, you can assign them the Learner – Course Extension role in Brightspace. This role allows access beyond the course start and end dates.
Steps to Change the Student’s Role

Access the Classlist
- Click Communication in the course navigation bar.
- Select Classlist.

Select the Student
- Find the student in the Classlist.
- Click the checkbox next to their name.

Click Enrollment

Change Enrollment Role
- In the New Role dropdown, select Learner – Course Extension.
- Click Save.
After the Student Completes the Course
- Change their role back to Learner using the same steps above, but select Learner in Step 4.
Important Notes
Role Duration: The Learner – Course Extension role remains active until you manually change it back.
Content Availability: This role does not override dates set on assignments, quizzes, discussions, or other content. You must adjust any date restrictions for the student to access and complete coursework.
