LockDown Browser prevents students from printing, copying, going to other URLs, or accessing other applications during an exam. Respondus Monitor adds webcam-based proctoring for additional security.
Step 1: Access the LockDown Browser Dashboard
- Log in to Brightspace and go to your course.
- In the top menu, click Assessments => Quizzes.
- From the Quizzes page, click the LockDown Browser tab (from the tabs above the quiz list) to access the Lockdown Browser Dashboard.
Step 2: Locate Your Exam
- In the LockDown Browser dashboard, you’ll see a list of all quizzes in your course.
- Find the quiz you want to secure (for example, your Final Exam).
Step 3: Require LockDown Browser
- Click the dropdown arrow next to the quiz name.
- Select Settings.
- Under LockDown Browser Settings, choose:
- Require LockDown Browser for this exam.
For just Lockdown Browser without Respondus Monitor (automated proctoring) you Save and Close here. To add automated webcam proctoring continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Enable Respondus Monitor
- After enabling LockDown Browser, check the box for:
- Require Respondus Monitor for this exam.
- Review the Startup Sequence options (e.g., webcam check, environment check).
- You can customize these steps or leave defaults.
- Add iPad Support
- We recommend that you expand the Advanced Settings add iPad support for students. Many students use iPads for their primary device.
Step 5: Save Settings
- Click Save and Close.
- Your quiz will now show “Required” under LockDown Browser and Respondus Monitor in the dashboard.
Important Tips
- Communicate with Students: Let them know they need LockDown Browser installed and a webcam for Respondus Monitor.
- Provide a Practice Quiz: This helps students test their setup before the final.
