There are two ways to grant a student more time for a quiz. Using Special Access within a particular quiz and using the Accommodations feature in the Classlist.
In this article:
Using Special Access for a Single Quiz

- Find the quiz you want to modify and click the down arrow next to it.
- Select Edit.
-
Manage Special Access:
- In the quiz editing screen, go to the Availability Dates & Conditions section.
- Click on Manage Special Access.

-
Allow Special Access:
- Select Allow selected users special access to this quiz.
- Click on Add Users to Special Access.
-
Set Extra Time:
- Under the Timing section, select Override time limit.
- Enter the new time limit for the student.

-
Select the Student:
- Under the Users section, search for the student and check their name.
- Click Save and then Close.
Using Accommodations for All Quizzes in a Course
Please note: Using the Accommodations feature through the classlist (instructions below) gives the student a course-wide timing accommodation, for all quizzes in a course. You do not need to set an accommodation for each quiz.
-
Navigate to Classlist:
- Go to your course and click on the Communication menu.
- Select Classlist.
-
Set Accommodations:
- Find the student who needs extra time and click the down arrow next to their name.
- Select Accommodations.
-
Adjust Timing:
- In the Accommodations settings, you can either:
- Use the Multiplier option to extend the time limit by a factor (e.g., 1.5x for time and a half).
- Use the Extra Time option to add a specific number of minutes to each quiz.
-
Save Changes:
- Click Save to apply the accommodations.
Please note: Giving a student more time through the Classlist Accommodations feature does
not allow them to start the quiz earlier or change the Start/End times of the quiz. If a student needs to start an In-Class quiz early, Special Access must still be used.
Students with an existing Classlist Accommodation do not need to have it granted again through Special Access.
