What is CU Brightspace?
CU Brightspace is the online learning management system at Commonwealth University. The LMS is where instructors can provide online materials, connect with students, enter grades, and more. Every course section in Banner loads into Brightspace when students start scheduling for the term. Instructors gain access to courses when they are assigned as the instructor of record in Banner.
Access Brightspace
You can access CU Brightspace at https://commonwealthu.brightspace.com
Click the Commonwealth User Login button, and use your CU credentials to log in to Brightspace.
As a new faculty member, you may not have access to Brightspace yet. Brightspace users Commonwealth University credentials to access the platform, and accounts are generated based on instructor listings in courses in Banner.
If you can't access Brightspace...
- Do you have Commonwealth University credentials?
- If not, you will need these first.
- Brightspace uses Commonwealth network/email credentials.
- If you have questions about network credentials, contact the Help Desk. You can reach them if you're on campus at the extension 4357, or if you're off campus, by calling 877-435-7280.
- Are you listed as the instructor for the course in Banner?
- If not, your Brightspace account won't exist yet- if you try to use your credentials to login, you may get a Not Authorized message.
- Brightspace adds accounts based on Banner listings in (close to) real time. Instructors must be listed as the instructor of record for the course in Banner to generate a Brightspace account and enroll them into the course as instructor.
- If you have questions about being listed as the Instructor of record in Banner, we recommend contacting your department.
- ...but you are teaching online soon and access to Brightspace is delayed due to contract finalization?
- Ask your department to contact CATS to let us know which course sections you are teaching and we will work with you to get you access to Brightspace as soon as possible.
