Recommended Technology Configuration for Distance Students

Students need particular hardware and software to successfully participate in distance education programs. The sections below list minimum technology recommendations for distance education students. Please note that these are minimum recommendations, and that distance courses will work more effectively with higher capabilities.

Operating System Currently Supported Windows or MacOS operating system (Windows S-Mode not supported)
Processor Industry Standard Intel or AMD processor
Memory 8GB RAM or more
Hard Drive 256GB or more (SSD Recommended)
Microphone/Speakers Required for distance courses. Headset with attached microphone recommended to avoid feedback in teleconference sessions.
Webcam Required for some courses.
Internet  5 Mbps Download, 1 Mbps Upload and less than 100 ms latency. A wired connection to a high speed internet service is always preferred to WiFi or mobile wireless service. 

Please note that although some tablets and Chromebooks meet minimum requirements they are NOT recommended for distance students.
